Redding, in the far north central part of California has it all. The only major city in the US that is still small (150,000 in market area) and still within 4 hours of mountains (skiing), lakes (all water sports), the Pacific Ocean, the entire SF Bay area, Reno, NV. and southern Oregon and all of its charm. Traditionallly a logging center, over the past 20 years Redding has become the government center for all of far Northern California, with a big presence by the Forest Service, the Bureau of Reclamation, and all of the other State and Federal agencies. In addition, with 3 major hospitals, the medical community serves citizens from over 100 miles away. With Simpson University and Shasta College, and top rated high schools, the Education community plays a big part in the cultural life of Redding, centered around the large Civic Auditorium and the totally refurbished Cascade Theater.
